Reception Feature Lighting, One Station Hill, Reading

A complete bespoke lighting solution that tells the story of its location better than most.

Positioned directly beside the busy train station in Reading, the reception of this commercial building called for a striking feature installation that reflected its surroundings. The client wanted to capture the aesthetic of railway tracks within the reception lighting — a concept that required both creativity and technical precision.

Gensler and dpa lighting consultants collaborated to deliver a feature lighting system that is both visually striking and highly functional.

The challenge went beyond design alone. The installation also needed to discreetly integrate lighting, speakers, security cameras and extensive cabling within the same system.

Challenge accepted — and the results speak for themselves.

The system utilised the Optelma Quad Curve Linear System, providing both curved and straight profile sections to create the flowing “track” layout while housing 3-circuit track within the structure. Continuous illuminated linear sections with opal diffuser deliver general illumination, complemented by the Axia Optelma track spot, capable of producing up to 5000 lumens of output for powerful accent lighting. Anti-glare reflectors were also incorporated to maintain visual comfort within the reception environment.

One Station Hill has won multiple awards including the national BCO award for Commercial Workplace.
